Deep Relief // Peak Performance was founded in 2008 to provide Athletic Training Services to professional and elite athletes training on Maui without their usual medical staff. We have since expanded to specialize in pain relief, postural balancing, rehabilitation, and strength and conditioning for athletes of all levels, from beach-cruising retirees to Tour de France Cyclists preparing for the season.
Deep2Peak Founder Samantha Campbell is a Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and Licensed Massage Therapist who has worked with athletes for more than 15 years.
Over the last 7 years, Samantha has developed the “Deep Relief Treatment,” enabling clients to enjoy pain-free activity, increased strength and flexibility, and injury resolution. She has traveled the world working with elite athletes from the US Ski Team, Triathlon Canada, and Red Bull High Performance as well as the World Surfing League and the Professional Windsurfers Association.
Samantha manages the day-to-day business of Deep2Peak and spends her time surfing, kiting, on the SUP, in the snow, playing Ultimate Frisbee, hiking, cycling, reading, and feeling rad every day.
Lindsey Dennis of Inspiration Health developed a passion for fitness as a competitive swimmer and collegiate basketball player.
She enjoys pursuing her mission to positively change the health and well being of everyone she works with, placing high importance on providing accurate health information for her clients.
Her strong research background includes a BS in Exercise Science and Wellness from Bastyr University and an internship with the Washington Institute of Sports Medicine. Lindsey furthered her education with Active Release Technique accreditation and is a Certified Natural Trainer with the Monkey Bar Gymnasium.
She enjoys basketball, Stand-up Paddling, freediving, swimming, learning, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
Rebekah Melzer of Body by Bex has been a bodyworker and athlete all her life, and loves how massage alleviates aches and pains to support a fast-paced lifestyle.
Combining the “hurts so good” feeling with total relaxation, Rebekah can keep you on your game and performing at your best. Specializing in Deep Tissue and Hot Stone, she will melt away stress and tightness in your body, returning you to homeostasis and feeling like yourself again.
Mackenzie Brown, LLC is a Licensed Physical Therapist, Orthopedic Certified Specialist and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with her BS in Kinesiology and Doctorate of Physical Therapy.
Mackenzie's goal is to provide individualized, high-quality care to her patients. She strongly values the role that hands-on, manual therapy can play on the road to recovery, in addition to patient education to promote pain-free and healthy lifestyle after recovery. Mackenzie specializes in treatment of vestibular dizziness and balance dysfunction, as well as consults on her husband's canine acupuncture and physical medicine cases to help dogs recover from injury or surgery.
Mackenzie enjoys all that beautiful Maui has to offer including surfing, outrigger canoe paddling with Na Kai Ewalu, trail running, and hiking.
Melanie Ehlen Maui LLC is a Certified Personal Training and Licensed Massage Therapist originally from Aachen, Germany, where she studied massage therapy and physical therapy.
She spent the last 25 years traveling the world, learning about human movement and practicing massage. Full-time on Maui for the last two years, Melanie expanded her knowledge base, completing training as a Certified Personal Trainer and accredited Active Release Techniques practitioner.
She loves combining treatment and training sessions for an integrated approach to whole-body healing and increased well-being and performance.
Born and raised on the North Shore of Maui, Lisa Stein began competing in triathlon and endurance running races in 2011, supplementing her training as a spin teacher and cycling guide. Her love of racing encouraged her to continue her education, becoming a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and USA Triathlon Certified Coach in 2017.
Lisa is passionate about working with people to accomplish their physical goals, She adds to the Deep2Peak Team by offering one on one Personal Training, Power Camp Group Fitness Classes, Triathlon Coaching and Program Design.
Lauren Vander Veen, DPT of On Point Physical Therapy, LLC has been a successful and very reputable therapist on Maui since 2009. A scholarship athlete on the University of Massachusetts, Amherst Division I Volleyball Team, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and then a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from A.T. Still University in Mesa, AZ. Lauren’s advanced manual therapy training for spinal and peripheral conditions comes from extensive continuing education in the Paris, Maitland, Fascial Distortion, and McKenzie methods. She focuses on the biomechanical model, applying her knowledge of kinesiology, physiology, and anatomy to assess where the fault in the system originates and how to best treat it through manual therapy and exercise. In addition, she has years of experience of treating and working in college level athletic training rooms. Lauren uses her diversity to treat a wide array of patients determined to improve physical well-being through self-empowerment and the healing touch.
She is active in sports including indoor and beach volleyball, surfing, and sprint triathlon. She is inspired by and empathizes with each patient’s return to wellness journey.
Kody Kerbox grew up in Haiku, Maui playing a variety of sports in and out of the ocean. After graduating high school he spent 5 years competing professionally in Stand Up Paddle surfing and racing around the world. Dealing with several injuries during his career, Kody developed a passion for peak performance and training. After interning with Deep2Peak at the start of 2018, he has been able to share his knowledge and passion with others as a personal trainer.
Malia Lauer is a board-certified Physical Therapist and a Certified Yoga Instructor specializing in manual therapy and sports-based rehabilitation. Malia was born and raised in Hawaii and received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in San Diego. In addition to her conventional medical training, Malia has spent the last 15+ years studying various complementary healing modalities including yoga, meditation and nutrition. Her passion for movement and body mechanics has brought her all over the world to explore techniques for optimal performance and well-being which she loves to incorporate into her treatment sessions.
Brad Cunningham has been practicing massage on Maui since 2010. He specializes in advanced bodywork and manual therapy modalities including myofascial release and orthopedic massage. Brad’s hobbies include surfing, freediving, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. He is inspired by the work of Vladimir Janda, Phillip Greenman, and Karel Lewit and enjoys pursuing continuing education related to bodywork and wellness.
Deep Relief // Peak Performance Internship Opportunity
Interested in learning about Sports Medicine, Strength and Conditioning, and Physical Therapy? Gain knowledge and experience working with athletes and active individuals as an intern at Deep Relief // Peak Performance.
2020 Dates: July-December
Description: Observe strength and conditioning for athletes, Personal Training, Physical Therapy, manual therapy, rehabilitation exercises, taping, evaluation of injuries, postural assessment, private practice client relations and sales, and use of scheduling software.
Daily Duties include open and close gym, filing, clean and maintain equipment, research conditions and best practices for clients, supervise client workouts, assist with cueing and stretching in group training sessions, light computer and administrative projects, contribute to video library of exercises and sessions.
Additional/Optional: 1-on-1 supervised personal training sessions with select clients, potential to develop new program in your specialty.
Evaluation includes daily feedback from supervisor, weekly meetings, end of internship report and recommendation letter.
Potential to earn money substitute personal training and/or developing personal client base.
